Students with disabilities

The Bursary for Students with Disabilities (BSWD) helps eligible students pay for disability-related services and equipment they require to participate in university studies.

Students may be eligible for BSWD funding if they receive:

  • at least $1 of OSAP funding; or
  • an Ontario part-time grant;
  • institution-funded special bursary

To be considered for the BSWD, Ontario Tech students must follow these steps:

*All requests for disability-related services or equipment must be assessed by an Accessibility and Accommodation Specialist to ensure they meet requirements set out by the Ministry.

  1. Confirm that they submitted a completed Disability Verification Form to OSAP.
  2. Review the Student Accessibility Services (SAS) site and submit an Intake form.
  3. Meet with SAS to discuss their need for disability-related services or equipment.
  4. Complete the BSWD application with their Accessibility and Accommodation Specialist.
  5. Ontario Tech Student Awards will determine the student’s eligibility.
  6. Ontario Tech Student Awards will communicate their decision about eligibility directly to the student and the SAS Officer.
  7. Retain and submit all receipts following the processes outlined by Ontario Tech Student Awards department.
    • Note: Students must have their direct deposit banking information on file with the school to receive funding.

Students can identify as having a disability with OSAP by having their health care provider complete the OSAP Disability Verification form. Once completed, the form should be uploaded to their account through the OSAP Online Portal.
