Vector Scholarship in Artificial Intelligence

The Vector Institute will drive excellence and leadership in Canada’s knowledge, creation and use of artificial intelligence (AI) to foster economic growth and improve the lives of Canadians. Vector strives to attract the best global talent focused on research excellence in deep learning and machine learning.

    Open competition: No quota

    Open to students entering any master’s program at Ontario Tech University who are pursuing studies in an AI field (Vector endorsement of the program is not required). While there is no quota for the open competition, the university will determine the number of candidates submitted to the Vector Institute based on total number and quality of applications received.

  • Eligibility

    To be considered for a scholarship, you must:

    • Entering a full-time master’s program in an AI-related field at an Ontario university for the 2026-27 academic year. The program must be Vector-recognized or you must be pursuing an individualized study plan that is demonstrably AI-focused.
    • Hold first-class standing (minimum of A- or equivalent) in the last two years of full-time equivalent study from a recognized university (typically 20 half-courses). Students’ transcripts should reflect preparedness for the proposed master’s program.
    • Consideration will be given to nominees with upper second class standing (B+) and relevant work experience, only if rationale for consideration is included in the nomination package.
  • How to apply
    1. Review scholarship information on the Vector website.
    2. Complete and submit the Vector Scholarship application form on our website.
    3. Submit your complete application package to gradscholarships@ontariotechu.ca by the deadline. All applications must include your Ontario Tech University student ID in the subject line and documents along with the following components: 
      1. Copies of all up-to-date transcripts (undergraduate and graduate, if applicable); Students who submit unofficial transcripts will be required to submit official transcripts if selected as scholarship recipient.
      2. An up-to-date one to two-page CV;
      3. A 500-word statement outlining your reason for pursuing a master’s in AI, relevant AI-related experience, and career aspirations, using the Student Statement Form found on the Templates Page;
      4. If the nomination is not to a Vector-recognized program, a signed and approved study plan, including a course list and a description of the master’s thesis/capstone project will also be required, using the provided Study Plan Template on the Templates Page; Please note: Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Software Engineering are not a Vector approved program.
      5. Self-Identification Questionnaire, which is submitted as a separate file. The questionnaire is confidential and is not evaluated or visible to the review committee. The questionnaire can be found on the Templates Page.
      6. Two references, at least one of which is academic, using the Referee Form found on the Templates Page.
        • Complete Referee Forms should be sent by the referee directly to gradscholarships@ontariotechu.ca by February 25 by those completing the forms. Please note this is a hard deadline. Referee reports must not be submitted by students. It is the responsibility of the applicant to follow up with their respective referees to ensure referee report forms are submitted in time. Incomplete applications will be removed from the competition

    All application files will be accepted, reviewed and processed by Ontario Tech. Eligible applications are reviewed by the Departmental Selection Committee prior to nomination to the Vector Institute.
