Ontario Tech acknowledges the lands and people of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation.

We are thankful to be welcome on these lands in friendship. The lands we are situated on are covered by the Williams Treaties and are the traditional territory of the Mississaugas, a branch of the greater Anishinaabeg Nation, including Algonquin, Ojibway, Odawa and Pottawatomi. These lands remain home to many Indigenous nations and peoples.

We acknowledge this land out of respect for the Indigenous nations who have cared for Turtle Island, also called North America, from before the arrival of settler peoples until this day. Most importantly, we acknowledge that the history of these lands has been tainted by poor treatment and a lack of friendship with the First Nations who call them home.

This history is something we are all affected by because we are all treaty people in Canada. We all have a shared history to reflect on, and each of us is affected by this history in different ways. Our past defines our present, but if we move forward as friends and allies, then it does not have to define our future.

Scholarships

You could be awarded a scholarship from the university based on academic achievement as well as personal excellence.

  • Eligibility requirements

    All scholarships and awards from the university are subject to the following conditions: 

    • Entrance scholarships are available to students attending the university from secondary school within 18 months of graduation.
    • Summer school courses taken immediately prior to the start of the September term and any upgrading marks will not be included in grade calculations for awards.
    • The university reserves the right to determine acceptable academic credentials, grades and prerequisite courses to be used for admissions and awards.
    • Values are subject to change without notice.
    • You have not previously attended a post-secondary institution.
    • You may not hold more than one scholarship simultaneously.
    • You must be enrolled in a minimum 80 percent course load per term.

    • Continuation of all sources of funding from the university is dependent on maintaining good academic standing, and availability of funds. If you withdraw, change to part-time status (including co-op), change your program, change your fee status, or residency or fail to complete a term, you may have your scholarship reduced or may no longer be eligible for funding.


Entrance scholarships

  • Awards of recognition

    These awards recognize academic accomplishments for recent Canadian secondary-school graduates. The following amounts are automatically awarded in your first year based on your best six 4U/4M courses (or equivalent).

    • $4,000 - 95 per cent or higher
    • $2,000 - 90 to 94.9 per cent
    • $1,000 - 85 to 89.9 per cent
  • Major entrance scholarships (application-based)

    These awards are given to applicants who demonstrate outstanding academic achievement (minimum 85 per cent average), exceptional leadership and community involvement.

    If you are a Canadian citizen or permanent resident studying full-time at a Canadian secondary school, you can apply for the following:

    • Chancellor's Scholarship—one valued at $36,000 ($9,000 a year for four years).
    • President's Scholarship—two valued at $30,000 each ($7,500 a year for four years).
    • Founder's Scholarship—two valued at $24,000 each ($6,000 a year for four years).

    Only one application is required to be considered for all three awards.

    The application is closed for 2024-2025.

    FIRST Robotics Canada Scholarship

    In support of the For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST) mission, we offer the FIRST Robotics Canada (FRC) Scholarship—one merit-based scholarship valued at $12,000 ($3,000 each year for four years).

    To be eligible, you must be in your final year of secondary school, entering the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science or Faculty of Energy Systems and Nuclear Science at the university, and participated on an FRC team during high school.

    The application is closed for 2024-2025.


Scholarships for current students

  • Ontario Tech University Education Exchange Scholarship

    The university provides allocated funding through the support of the Ontario Tech University Education Exchange Scholarship for students completing part of their academic program abroad through their faculty with approval. If eligible, this scholarship will provide you with financial support for an allocated period of academic study, work term or co-op placement outside of Canada.

    Awards are available for international study opportunities based on the following criteria:

    • Full-time, registered student at the university.
    • Participating in a faculty-approved international study program.
    • Must have a demonstrated financial need.
    • Must be in good academic standing with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
    • Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or protected person.
  • In-course scholarships

    We want to recognize your academic achievements during your undergraduate degree! If you have achieved a minimum 3.7 GPA (on a 4.3 scale) during your previous academic year, and are returning to full-time study, you may qualify for an in-course scholarship. To be eligible, students must:

    • Have been registered in at least an 80 percent course load in your previous fall and winter semesters
    • Achieved a combined GPA of 3.7 or greater from your previous fall and winter semesters
    • Be returning to full-time studies in the fall semester, and registered in at least an 80 percent course load

    In-course scholarships are automatically applied to eligible student accounts at the start of the fall semester each year.

    • $1,500 - awarded to students who have achieved a combined GPA of 4.0 or greater from their previous fall and winter semesters
    • $1,000 - awarded to students who have achieved a combined GPA of 3.7 to 3.99 from their previous fall and winter semesters

    Please note: In-course scholarships are available for up to three years of your first undergraduate degree. To be considered, you must be enrolled in a minimum 80 percent course load. In-course scholarships are applied once per year, at the start of the fall semester only.
