Ontario Tech acknowledges the lands and people of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation.

We are thankful to be welcome on these lands in friendship. The lands we are situated on are covered by the Williams Treaties and are the traditional territory of the Mississaugas, a branch of the greater Anishinaabeg Nation, including Algonquin, Ojibway, Odawa and Pottawatomi. These lands remain home to many Indigenous nations and peoples.

We acknowledge this land out of respect for the Indigenous nations who have cared for Turtle Island, also called North America, from before the arrival of settler peoples until this day. Most importantly, we acknowledge that the history of these lands has been tainted by poor treatment and a lack of friendship with the First Nations who call them home.

This history is something we are all affected by because we are all treaty people in Canada. We all have a shared history to reflect on, and each of us is affected by this history in different ways. Our past defines our present, but if we move forward as friends and allies, then it does not have to define our future.

FIRST Robotics Canada Scholarship

One valued at $12,000 

The recipient of this award will receive $3,000 each year, over four years. In support of the For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST) mission, the university offers the FIRST Robotics Canada (FRC) Scholarship. The recipient of this award will have made notable contributions to an FRC team during their time in secondary school.

  • Criteria
    The recipient must: 

    • Be a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant.
    • Be in their final year of secondary school, entering their first undergraduate university degree.
    • Demonstrate personal leadership and/or significant contributions to the FIRST Robotics program.
    • Have earned a minimum of 85 per cent in their best six 4U or 4M courses.
    • Have participated on a FIRST Robotics team during secondary school.
  • Application process

    To apply for the FIRST Robotics Canada Scholarship:

    1. Complete the online application. Printed application forms will be discarded.
    2. Complete Scholarship Reference Forms, submitted by referees only.

    Applications must be submitted no later than Thursday, February 22, 2024. Late or incomplete applications will not be reviewed, nor will applicants be notified.

    Successful applicants will be notified in early June.

    Please note:

    • You must have applied to Ontario Tech University through the Ontario Universities' Application Centre to be considered for this award.
    • Make sure to apply for the appropriate scholarship in full—fill out all required sections of the application and follow the instructions regarding formatting and maximum word length.
  • References

    References are used as an important means for determining the quality of your application. In order for your application to be complete, you must have two references; one community and one education.

    Community reference

    Your community reference should be someone other than a family member or close friend, who has observed you in your public life and is aware of your various involvements.

    Education reference

    Your education reference must be a teacher, counsellor or principal, who has observed you in your public life and is aware of your various involvements.

    Submitting references

    1. Complete two Scholarship Reference Forms, submitted by referees only.

    References must be received no later than Thursday, February 22, 2024
